US state of Georgia recognises Bangladesh Army chief for UN peacekeeping contributions
The bipartisan resolution, supported by both Republican and Democratic lawmakers, highlighted the global service of Bangladeshi peacekeepers.
Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman received a special honour from the US state of Georgia, acknowledging the country's notable contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations, according to an official statement from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The formal presentation of the resolution took place on Tuesday (31 March), during a session of the Georgia State Senate, with Governor Brian P. Kemp personally handing it over to the army chief.
The bipartisan resolution, supported by both Republican and Democratic lawmakers, highlighted the global service of Bangladeshi peacekeepers.
Senator Sheikh Rahman, of Bangladeshi origin, played a pivotal role in securing the resolution's adoption.
Earlier on the same day, General Waker held a meeting with Governor Kemp to discuss defence and military matters.
The army chief then attended the senate session alongside his delegation, where he also interacted with Georgia's Lieutenant Governor, Burt Jones.
According to the ISPR, the army chief commenced his official visit to the United States on 28 March.
