Iran's Natanz nuclear facility targeted again in US-Israeli attack
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran assured that no nuclear radiation had been released following the strike.
The US and Israel launched an attack on the Natanz uranium-enrichment facility this morning (21 March), Iran's Tasnim news agency said.
"No leakage of radioactive materials has been reported in this complex and no danger threatens the residents of the areas surrounding this site", Tasnim added.
Natanz, one of Iran's central nuclear sites located about 220km southeast of Tehran, was previously targeted during the opening week of the conflict, when satellite images showed damage to multiple structures, reports Al Jazeera.
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran confirmed that the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan enrichment facility was hit in what it described as "criminal attacks" carried out by the United States and Israel.
The organisation did not specify how the attack was carried out or the type of bombs used.
However, officials assured that no nuclear radiation had been released, meaning the surrounding civilian population faces no immediate risk, as per Al Jazeera.
The organisation further said that today's strike breached international laws, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, along with other frameworks governing nuclear safety.
This marks the first confirmed major strike on Natanz since the conflict began, though Iranian nuclear sites, including facilities in Isfahan, have faced attacks almost daily.
Israeli media, citing US sources, claimed that bunker-buster bombs were used in today's strike, the first deployment of such weapons against the facility since the start of the war.
The site had also been targeted during the 12-day confrontation between Iran and Israel in June 2025, when Israeli airstrikes were followed by US action.
The conflict, now entering its third week, shows little indication of easing.
Israel reported that Iran launched additional missile attacks early today, while Saudi Arabia said it intercepted 20 drones within a few hours over its Eastern Region, an area that hosts key oil infrastructure.
