Energy rationing: Dhaka South allocates 30% less fuel for officials’ vehicles, 20% less for waste vehicles

Dhaka South City Corporation has reduced fuel allocation for vehicles used by its officials by 30% and by 20% for waste management vehicles as part of new energy-saving measures.

The directives were issued today (9 March) following instructions from Dhaka South administrator Md Abdus Salam, in line with the government's national initiatives to curb electricity and fuel consumption amid the ongoing global energy crisis.

According to the order, officials have also been asked to limit the use of both official and personal vehicles.

The directive further outlines several measures to reduce electricity consumption across DSCC offices. Officials have been instructed to avoid using electric lights during the daytime when sufficient natural light is available and to maximise daylight by opening windows, doors or blinds.

Offices must ensure that only half of the existing lights are used, while unnecessary lighting remains switched off. Fans, air conditioners and other electrical equipment should not be used unless necessary.

The temperature of air conditioners must be set at 25°C or above. Officials have also been asked to switch off lights, fans and air conditioners when leaving rooms.

Unnecessary lighting in corridors, staircases and washrooms has been discouraged. After office hours, computers, printers, scanners and other electrical devices must remain switched off, while decorative lighting has been prohibited.

All departments and regional offices under DSCC have been instructed to strictly comply with the directives.

The order, signed by DSCC secretary Mohammad Nasim Ahmed, came into effect immediately.
