Khulna sees 61% voter turnout across six parliamentary constituencies

Khulna District Returning Officer ASM Jamshed Khondoker reported that 61% of votes have been cast in the six parliamentary constituencies of Khulna, as voting began peacefully in 840 centres today (12 February) with no untoward incidents reported during the early hours.
On Thursday morning, around 7:30am, a visit to the Rayermahal Taltala Government Primary School polling centre under the Khulna-3 constituency showed a long queue of women voters waiting to cast their ballots.
The returning officer and District Commissioner ASM Jamshed Khondoker said that

Housewife Salma Begum said she was happy to vote after a long time. "It feels good, brother," she added.
Though voter turnout was comparatively low in the early hours at the Maulana Bhasani Bidyapith Girls' School and College centre in Khalishpur, the number of voters gradually increased as the morning advanced.
At the Lions School polling centre under the Khulna-2 constituency, voter turnout was also expected to increase during the morning hours.
Khulna District Returning Officer ASM Jamshed Khondoker said a total of 2,078,253 voters are registered, including 1,033,851 male, 1,044,375 female, and 27 third-gender voters.
A total of 38 candidates are contesting in the six constituencies in this election, he added.
