NCP expresses concern over threats to Hindu voters, women harassment
The party also alleged perceived bias by the Election Commission ahead of the elections
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has expressed concern regarding alleged threats directed at Hindu voters and the harassment of women ahead of the upcoming national elections.
"A threatening campaign is being conducted against Hindu voters in the Dhaka-1 constituency regarding the process of voting for the 'sheaf of paddy' symbol. Hindu voters are being misled by claims that their votes will go into a separate ballot box, revealing who has voted and who has not," party's Election Management Committee Secretary Monira Sharmin said at a regular press briefing at party's central office in Dhaka's Banglamotor.
"Such misinformation and manipulative tactics are creating concern among Hindu and other minority voters," she added.
On the issue of women's safety, she further alleged that female members of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance face harassment, citing an incident during the party's chief organiser (southern region) Hasnat Abdullah's campaign by individuals reportedly linked to BNP leaders.
The NCP leader also criticised the removal of representatives of the National Center for State Courts-Bangladesh, a US-based non-profit organisation, from polling centres based on BNP demands, saying, "The Election Commission acted unilaterally in Favor of one party without consulting others, indicating bias in the electoral process."
She said this removal is being viewed as part of a deliberate conspiracy.
