Labaid Cancer Hospital observes World Cancer Day 2026
On the occasion of World Cancer Day 2026, Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Speciality Centre marked the day with a large-scale cancer awareness rally and a discussion session involving senior clinicians and hospital leadership.
The initiative was organised in line with the global observance of World Cancer Day, which aims to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, equitable access to treatment, and patient-centred care. As part of its ongoing public health advocacy, the hospital marks the day annually to promote awareness and encourage proactive health behaviour among the public.
A coordinated awareness rally was the key highlight of the day's activities. The rally started from the main entrance of Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Speciality Centre, proceeded towards Labaid Specialised Hospital, and returned to the cancer hospital premises. It aimed to raise awareness among people from all walks of life about the importance of early diagnosis, lifestyle modification, and timely cancer treatment. Through public engagement and visible messaging, the rally underscored the need for community-level awareness to reduce cancer-related morbidity and mortality.
Prior to the rally, a discussion session was held in which senior doctors of the hospital addressed the gathering. Speakers included Professor Dr Sabera Khatun, Professor Dr Md Ehteshamul Haque, Brigadier General (retd.) Professor Dr Md Abdul Aleem, Dr Ali Nafisa, and Professor Dr M A Khan. They highlighted the global significance of World Cancer Day and stressed that early detection through screening, symptom awareness, and access to quality treatment can significantly improve survival outcomes.
The discussion session was moderated by Masud Ahmed, Head of Business, Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Speciality Centre, while Md Arifur Rahman, Head of Operations, was also present, reflecting strong administrative support for the initiative. Speakers also discussed the World Cancer Day 2026 theme, "United by Unique", emphasising that each patient's cancer journey is different and requires personalised and compassionate care.
Doctors, nurses, medical assistants, patient care assistants, corporate professionals, and support staff from all departments participated in the programme, demonstrating the hospital's collective commitment to cancer care, awareness, and community engagement.
World Cancer Day serves as a reminder that cancer is not only a medical issue but also a social and economic challenge. Through awareness-driven initiatives, Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Speciality Centre states it continues to contribute to national and global efforts to reduce the cancer burden and promote early detection and access to quality treatment.
