Looting at actor Sentu’s rented house over alleged dispute between flat owner and NCP leader
According to the complaint, Sentu has been living in the flat since January, paying Tk11,000 as monthly rent along with an equal amount as security deposit.
Allegations of looting have emerged at the rented apartment of actor Md Sentu Mia, 28, in the capital's East Rampura area, reportedly stemming from a dispute between the flat owner and a local leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
The incident took place at a flat of a building located at WASA Road in East Rampura. Sentu has filed a written complaint with Rampura Police Station, accusing NCP Rampura Police Station Coordinator Abdul Haque Talukder Liton, 50, his associate Enayet Ullah, 51, and 15–20 unidentified individuals.
According to the complaint, Sentu has been living in the flat since January, paying Tk11,000 as monthly rent along with an equal amount as security deposit. On 25 January around 5:30pm, he left for a shooting in Manikganj. When he returned home around 2:30am on 31 January, he found that his apartment had been ransacked.
Quoting the building's caretaker, Sentu alleged that on 25 January at around 7:30pm, Liton and Enayet, along with 15–20 unidentified people, broke open the lock and removed household items. He also claimed that posters bearing the image of NCP convener Nahid Islam were left inside the flat. Police later visited the apartment and recorded a video of the scene.
In his complaint, Sentu said the looters took away a 2-terabyte hard drive containing the final footage of a film, which he claimed cost Tk50 lakh to produce. Other stolen items include a Vivo mobile phone worth Tk26,000, a ceiling fan worth Tk3,000, a gas card, a crest, clothes, an iron, and shoes.
Speaking to The Business Standard over the phone, Sentu said he had rented the flat from Enayet and Liton. "When I was away, their people broke into my apartment and looted it. Now they are claiming they are not the owners of the flat," he said. He also alleged that police refused to register a case unless the names of Liton and Enayet were removed, after which he submitted a written complaint instead.
Rampura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahangir Hossain said police are examining Sentu's complaint. "So far, we have not found primary evidence linking the two accused individuals to the incident. However, the matter is under investigation."
Flat owner Md Delwar Hossain told The Business Standard that Liton and his associates, including Advocate Asaduzzaman and Nupur Akter, have long been trying to take over his flat. He said he had rented the flat to Enayet Ullah but was unaware that Enayet had sublet it to Sentu.
Delwar claimed that he had previously been attacked and robbed while attempting to rent out the flat, and that he had filed multiple complaints with the police. "The looting at Sentu's apartment was carried out to take over the flat," he alleged, adding that Enayet is an associate of NCP leader Liton.
However, NCP leader Abdul Haque Talukder Liton denied any involvement. He told The Business Standard that he was being targeted due to political vendetta by a local BNP leader. "This BNP leader, in collusion with Delwar, is filing false cases and complaints against me," he claimed. He also alleged that Delwar had cheated people out of money, and that those aggrieved individuals were responsible for the looting. "Now an innocent actor is being misled into filing allegations against me," Liton said.
