Md Hasinur Rahman takes charge as BAEC member
Md Hasinur Rahman, chief scientific officer, has been appointed Member (Planning) (current charge) of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).
The appointment was made through an office order issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology on 29 January 2026. Prior to assuming the new role, Rahman was serving as director (Physical Sciences) of the commission.
After joining BAEC in 1995 as a scientific officer, he has worked for nearly three decades in the fields of nuclear instrumentation, energy analysis and nuclear power plant project management.
During his career, he was closely involved with the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project for an extended period and served as deputy project director. He demonstrated notable professional expertise across critical phases of the project, including site selection, design selection, acquisition of site and design licences, negotiation and finalisation of the general contract and obtaining the construction licence.
He is currently serving as Bangladesh's focal point for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO).
As part of his professional responsibilities, Rahman has travelled to Australia, Malaysia, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Austria, the United States, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Mongolia, Russia and Belarus.
He obtained his BSc (Honours) and MSc degrees in applied physics from the University of Dhaka.
Rahman was born in 1967 in Pabna district into a respected Muslim family. He is married and has two children.
