Ispahani-sponsored national team bridge championship concludes
The prize-giving and closing ceremony of the 37th National Team Bridge Championship, sponsored by Ispahani Group, was held on 31 January 2026 at 7:00pm at the E.R.C. Auditorium of the Engineers' Institute in Dhaka.
The programme was presided over by Syed Mahbubur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh Bridge Federation. Mahbub-ul-Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, attended as chief guest, while Emaad Ispahani, Director of Ispahani Group, was present as special guest. Officials from the Bangladesh Bridge Federation and Ispahani Group were also in attendance.
The matches of the Ispahani 37th National Team Bridge Championship were held from 23 to 30 January at the E.R.C. Auditorium and the Olympic Building in the capital.
In the final, held on 31 January, 'Shironamhin' emerged champions after defeating 'Maximus' by 30.33 points, with Maximus finishing as runners-up. At the prize-giving ceremony, the chief guest and special guest presented medals and the trophy to the members of the champion team—Md Zahid Hossain, Shah Ziaul Haque, Rashedul Ahasan Nayem, Moshiur Rahman Sumon and Naimul Hasan Tapu.
Speaking on the occasion, Bangladesh Bridge Federation President Syed Mahbubur Rahman described bridge as an intellectual game and stressed the importance of involving public and private universities to popularise the sport among young people. He also highlighted Bangladesh's achievements in international bridge tournaments and expressed optimism about future success.
In a message, Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam said bridge has gained notable international recognition among Bangladesh's traditional games, adding that the ministry would continue to support the promotion and development of the sport.
Special guest Emaad Ispahani said Ispahani Group has consistently supported bridge and would continue to do so in the future. He thanked the Bangladesh Bridge Federation for the opportunity to sponsor the championship.
Organisers noted that Ispahani has long contributed to the development of sports in Bangladesh, supporting both mainstream and less prominent disciplines. In addition to bridge, the group continues to support sports such as cricket, football, basketball, chess, squash and golf.
