DMP to take strict action against honking in airport area
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced that strict punitive action will be taken against anyone who honks in the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area and its surrounding zones in Dhaka.
The announcement was made today (19 January) through a press release signed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the DMP's Media and Public Relations division.
According to the press release, areas including the airport and a 1.5 km stretch from Scholastica School to Hotel Le Méridien, as well as Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and Niketan, have been designated as silent zones since September last year.
Honking in these areas is a punishable offense under the Road Transport Act 2018 and the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules 2025, with violators liable for up to Tk10,000 fine or three months' jail.
The DMP said it will enforce the law strictly to maintain peace and silence in these zones.
