ACC to file cases against families of Anisul Alamgir, Shamim Osman and Hanif
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file separate cases against journalist Anisul Rahman Alamgir and family members of former Parliament Shamim Osman and Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif over allegations of wealth accumulation beyond known sources of income and failure to submit asset statements.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain disclosed the decisions while briefing reporters yesterday.
According to ACC findings, journalist Anisul Rahman Alamgir owns immovable properties worth Tk25 lakh and movable assets worth Tk3.84 crore, bringing his total declared assets to Tk4.09 crore. Additionally, his family and other expenditures have been calculated at Tk15.90 lakh, raising his total acquired wealth to Tk4.25 crore.
In contrast, the ACC found his acceptable income to be only Tk99.09 lakh. This leaves Tk3.26 crore in assets unexplained, which the commission has identified as wealth acquired beyond known sources of income. Consequently, the ACC has decided to file a case against him under Section 27(1) of the ACC Act, 2004.
Meanwhile, the commission has also approved filing two separate cases against Imtinan Osman and Labiba Joha Angana, children of former MP Shamim Osman. The ACC issued notices to them on 26 August 2025, asking for submission of their wealth statements. As they failed to submit the statements within the time limit and did not seek any extension, cases will be filed against them under Section 26(2) of the ACC Act, 2004.
Similarly, cases have been approved against three children of former MP Mahbubul Alam Hanif: Fahim Afsar Alam, Farhan Sadik Alam, and Tanisha Alam for failing to submit asset statements. The ACC served notices on them on 27 November 2025, but they neither complied within the deadline nor requested additional time. As a result, three separate cases will be filed under Section 26(2) of the ACC Act.
The commission stated that further legal proceedings will be initiated in accordance with the law.
