Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun appointed new chief of BFIU
Under the appointment terms, Mamun must leave all other professional roles to take charge of the BFIU.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Tax Commissioner Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun has been appointed as the new chief of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).
The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance today (12 January) issued a gazette notification in this regard.
According to the notification, Mamun has been appointed on a contractual basis under Section 24(1)(d) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, with the rank of Bangladesh Bank deputy governor, for a two-year term from the date of joining.
Under the appointment terms, Mamun must leave all other professional roles to take charge of the BFIU. The position is full-time, with salary and benefits set by the approved contract, and the order will take effect immediately in the public interest.
Earlier, Shahinul Islam served as the head of the BFIU, but the government cancelled his appointment in September last year after a controversial video spread on social media.
The BFIU works as the country's main financial intelligence agency, monitoring suspicious transactions by banks and financial institutions and helping prevent money laundering.
