Small industries dying under VAT burden: Business leaders
Obaidur Rahman, president of the Bangladesh Aluminium Manufacturers Association, took part in the discussions. "Our industries are shutting down. Please save these industries," he said.
Small industries in the country are going through a difficult time due to VAT burden, business leaders said at a pre-budget meeting organised by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
The business leaders called on the government to step forward to save these industries.
Obaidur Rahman, president of the Bangladesh Aluminium Manufacturers Association, took part in the discussions. "Our industries are shutting down. Please save these industries," he said.
He made the appeal to reduce the VAT burden on these industries. "Increase direct taxes. Send officers to district and upazila levels. A huge amount of income tax will be collected from there," he added.
"We are pleading to save the small industries," he said.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, NBR chairman Abdur Rahman Khan, and FBCCI administrator and additional secretary of the commerce ministry Abdur Rahim Khan spoke at the event, among others.
Top business leaders of the country were also present at the meeting.
