Operation Devil Hunt Phase 2: 12,607 arrested so far, 156 firearms recovered
A total of 12,607 people have been arrested so far in a nationwide special drive titled "Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2," launched to control the law and order situation and recover illegal arms.
During the operation, 156 firearms have been recovered, according to a press release by Police Headquarters' Assistant Inspector General (Media and PR) AHM Shahadat Hossain on Thursday evening (1 January).
According to the media release, as part of regular police activities, 511,275 motorcycles and 571,468 vehicles were searched.
During the searches, 6,622 illegal motorcycles were seized.
On 13 December 2025, the operation began following a decision taken at a law and order core committee meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Police units and the army jointly started the drive the same night.
The operation was initiated amid concerns over public security ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, particularly after Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman bin Hadi was shot and killed.
Previously, the government launched the nationwide security operation, titled "Operation Devil Hunt", on 8 February.
