State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today underscored the need for encouraging consumers to use quality and energy efficient electrical equipment.

"Everyone should avoid additional power consumption, which is not permitted from the authority. If necessary, consumers can receive assistance from power offices to ensure safety and avoid accidents," he said while delivering speech as the chief guest at the inaugural function of Smart Pre-Payment Meter Installation here through video conferencing.

According to a press release, the West Zone Power Distribution Company has initiated the programme for installation of smart pre-paid meter in Narail.

The state minister said pre-paid meter will allow consumers to use electricity as per the budget and customers will get 1% rebate on net electricity bill.

He noted that the number of subscribers in Narail is 15,800. The initial target for installation of the proposed pre-paid meters is 9,998.

Nasrul said consumers can take advantage according to their budget for consuming electricity by setting up smart pre-payment meters and monthly bill payment system is very easy.

"The government will supply uninterrupted electricity on time. In pre-payment metering system, consumers will get Taka 100 from meters as emergency balance after finishing their balance and there is no possibility for outage due to the system. Even the balance of the meter runs out on weekly vacation (Friday-Saturday), public holidays and after office hours (from 4:00 pmt to 10am next day) the meter will not be off," he said.

The state minister directed the authorities concerned to take steps for proper installation of underground cables, smart grid and proper utilization of existing resources.

He said that all power cables will be installed underground in phases across the country.

Deputy Commissioner Anjuman Ara presided over the function while local lawmaker Mashrafe Bin Murtaza, Power Secretary Dr Sultan Ahmed and Managing Director of West Zone Power Distribution Company Md Shafiq Uddin joined the function and delivered their speeches.
