Ducsu VP terms shooting of Osman Hadi 'ominous sign' for upcoming polls
Fallen fascists have already issued threats and launched various programmes to impede the election, he wrote in a Facebook post
The shooting of Dhaka-8 aspiring candidate Sharif Osman Hadi, just a day after the national election schedule was announced, signals an ominous sign ahead of the polls, said Ducsu Vice President Md Abu Shadik Kayem today (12 December).
In a Facebook post, he warned that the attack raises serious concerns about election fairness and the safety of candidates nationwide.
"Fallen fascists have already issued threats and launched various programmes to impede the election, while their domestic and international allies also do not want the polls to take place," he wrote.
He urged the interim government to identify the shooter immediately and inform any political motive behind the incident to the nation.
He also called for robust security measures to protect all candidates, regardless of political affiliation, as they take to the field for election campaigning.
Earlier this afternoon, Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, was shot in the head by unknown assailants on motorcycles in the capital's Paltan area today (12 December), according to police and witnesses.
Hadi, an aspiring candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming polls, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency department following the attack and was taken to the operation theatre at around 3:50pm.
The incident took place a day after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 13th national parliamentary election.
