Road accident kills 6 on Dhaka-Barishal highway

Six people, including an ambulance driver, have been killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Barishal highway in Barishal.

The accident occurred in Wazirpur area on Wednesday afternoon when an ambulance heading towards Barishal from Dhaka collided head-on with a covered van, leaving all six passengers dead on the spot, said Ziaul Ahasan, officer-in-charge of Uzirpur Police Station.

The ambulance was carrying the body of a three-day-old infant girl who died on Tuesday night. Her parents and other relatives were taking the body to their village home at Baukathi under Jhalakathi sadar for burial.

The bodies of the victims are being kept at the Uzirpur Police Station, and will be sent to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue on Thursday morning for autopsy.

Police have seized the covered van and filed a case over the incident.
