Mama lemon launches kitchen hygiene campaign for primary students
MAMA Lemon Liquid Dishwash, a household brand from Lion Kallol Ltd, has launched its Kitchen Hygiene Awareness Campaign at a "Meet the Press" event held today at Lakeshore Heights, Dhaka.
The initiative aims to improve hygiene habits and food safety practices among primary school students across Bangladesh. Representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the University of Dhaka, Lion Kallol Ltd, Kallol Group of Companies, journalists, and other stakeholders attended the event.
The campaign is currently running in 651 schools in Manikganj, where students in years three and four are learning proper handwashing, safe food handling, and correct dishwashing practices. Children are also being trained as "hygiene ambassadors" so they can promote good habits within their families and wider communities. The programme follows a three-step training model under JICA's Strengthening the Inspection, Regulatory and Coordinating (STIRC) Project: experts train teachers, teachers train fellow teachers, and students then learn through interactive classroom sessions.
Speaking at the event, Okada Akiko, Project Formulation Advisor at JICA Bangladesh, said: "When children learn and practise hygiene, they influence their families and help build healthier communities." She also emphasised the importance of public–private partnerships in delivering long-term social impact.
Takeshi Hasegawa, Managing Director of Lion Kallol Ltd, highlighted Lion's global expertise in hygiene and said education and technology can significantly improve everyday hygiene practices. He thanked JICA for its support.
Ghulam Mustafa, Managing Director of Kallol Group of Companies, expressed pride in supporting a campaign that promotes community well-being and strengthens hygiene awareness among families across the country.
Dr Md Latiful Bari, Chief Scientist at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS), explained how bacteria accumulate in kitchen environments and stressed that washing dishes with liquid dishwash and running water can greatly reduce contamination and prevent foodborne illnesses.
Marketing Director, Tonmoy Dutta Gupta, reiterated Lion Kallol's commitment to improving kitchen hygiene and noted that the campaign supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. He said students would serve as hygiene ambassadors and hinted at plans to introduce a future "Kitchen Hygiene Awareness Day".
Lion Kallol Ltd is a joint venture established in 2022 between Lion Corporation Japan and Kallol Group of Companies Bangladesh. Its flagship product, MAMA Lemon Liquid Dishwash, features advanced technology designed to make daily dishwashing easier and more effective.
