BNP expels four Sitakunda leaders over highway blockade
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the expelled leaders were involved in violence, vandalism, and public disruption in the Kadam Rasul, Bhatiary Bazar, and Jalil Gate areas of Sitakunda upazila
BNP has expelled four of its local leaders in Sitakunda following a road blockade on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway yesterday evening (3 November), which reportedly stemmed from internal disputes over the party's nomination process.
In a press release issued today (4 November), BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the expelled leaders were involved in violence, vandalism, and public disruption in the Kadam Rasul, Bhatiary Bazar, and Jalil Gate areas of Sitakunda upazila.
Those expelled are Alauddin Moni, president of the Sitakunda upazila Swechchhasebak Dal; Helal Uddin Babor, general secretary of the same unit; Mamun, convener of the Sitakunda municipality BNP; and Momin Uddin Mintu, general secretary of the Sonachhari union Jubo Dal.
According to the statement, the four, known to be followers of former BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury, have been removed from all party positions, including primary membership.
Yesterday evening, supporters of rival BNP factions clashed and blocked parts of the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway, disrupting traffic for several hours and causing long tailbacks through Sitakunda.
