Rizvi urges ministers to be more proactive in tackling energy crisis
“The crisis in the country is 'artificial' and not a failure of the BNP government,” he said.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that government ministers must be more proactive in addressing the ongoing energy crisis in the country.
"The crisis in the country is 'artificial' and not a failure of the BNP government," he said at the National Theatre Hall today (23 April).
Rizvi stressed the need to reassure people, saying that merely making "chaotic statements" would not help, and that ministers must take greater responsibility in handling all crises.
He noted that Rajshahi recorded temperatures of up to 40°C the previous day, saying the government must be more active in addressing such conditions.
He urged the energy minister and the energy ministry to fulfil their responsibilities amid the ongoing heatwave and nationwide pressure on electricity supply, adding that it is not acceptable to claim there is no crisis.
Rizvi further said that fuel shortages have emerged because ships carrying oil from Iran have been unable to arrive, which he described as an "artificial crisis".
He said the price increase in this context is "natural", and criticised some MPs and ministers for downplaying it in parliament, saying the truth should be acknowledged.
He also said that the issue is due to international factors, including tensions in the Middle East, and not a failure of the BNP.
"If it were due to BNP's mismanagement, then that would be a different matter," he added.
