12 accused in Tk568cr market development fund embezzlement case granted bail upon surrender
Salman F Rahman and 26 others are named as accused in the case
Twelve individuals charged with fraud and embezzlement of Tk568 crore from the Market Development Fund (MDF) surrendered and were granted bail in a case filed at Gulshan Police Station in Dhaka.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman passed the order following the hearing today (27 October), Public prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki confirmed the information.
Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and 26 other individuals are named as accused in the case.
The accused who secured bail are Syed Moinul Haque, member of the executive committee of the IGW Operators Forum (IOF); Brigadier General Md Abdul Hannan (retired); Ashiq Ahmed; Gazi Md Salahuddin; Hafizur Rahman; Khalid Islam; Md Mahtabul Amin; Sohel Sharif; Tazin Alam; Nadir Shah Qureshi; Mir Nasir Hossain; and CCO Musfiq Manzur.
The 12 accused surrendered before the court and sought bail through their lawyers. Public prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki opposed the bail petitions.
After hearing both sides, the court granted bail to the accused on a bond of Tk5000.
Earlier on 18 September, BTRC's Senior Assistant Director Taufiqul Islam filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on behalf of the commission, accusing the defendants of fraud.
