Dengue surge continues with six deaths, 983 new cases in 24 hours
The dengue situation in Bangladesh continues to worsen as six more people died and 983 others were admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours leading up to yesterday morning.
The latest deaths have brought the total number of fatalities this year to 269, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new deaths, four were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation, one in Dhaka South City Corporation, and another in Barishal Division (outside city corporation area).
During the same period, 983 new patients were hospitalised, raising the total number of dengue cases to 66,423 so far this year.
Currently, 993 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, while 2,740 are being treated in hospitals across the country.
The DGHS report said that 61.8% of this year's patients were male and 38.2% female. Among the fatalities, 53.2% were men and 46.8% were women.
Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives, with 101,214 cases and 100,040 recoveries recorded during the same period.
