Police recover body of 19-year-old from staircase in Old Dhaka
The body was recovered on Saturday evening from the staircase on the fourth floor of a building at 93/1 Agamashi Lane
Police have recovered the body of a young man named Sajib, 19, from the staircase of his girlfriend's house in the Bangshal area of Dhaka. The victim's family alleges that members of the girlfriend's family lured him there and killed him.
The body was recovered on Saturday (25 October) evening from the staircase on the fourth floor of a building at 93/1 Agamashi Lane.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Dulal Haque of Bangshal Police Station confirmed the matter and said, "After receiving a call through the national emergency helpline 999, we went to the scene in the evening. We found the body of a young man lying face down on the staircase of the fourth floor, with a GI wire wrapped around his neck. After completing legal procedures, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:30pm for an autopsy."
According to local sources, a family lived on the fourth floor of the building, while the rest of it was used as a warehouse. The house was found locked from the outside.
Relatives of the deceased claimed that on Saturday afternoon, a young woman from the same area, named Khadija, called Sajib and invited him to their house. Later, the family members of the woman allegedly detained, tortured, and killed him.
Police said Sajib and the woman had been in a romantic relationship for several years, but their families did not approve of it. The woman's father reportedly died a few years ago.
Sajib lived with his family at 17 Agamashi Lane in the Bangshal area of Old Dhaka. SI Dulal Haque said, "We are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the cause of death. It is still under investigation whether it was a murder or suicide."
