BTRC sets 30 October deadline to limit SIMs to 10 per NID
Any subscriber failing to comply with the deadline will have their additional SIM cards automatically deactivated through a random selection process
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has set 30 October as the deadline for mobile subscribers to deactivate or transfer ownership of any SIM cards exceeding the maximum limit of 10 registered under a single National Identity Card (NID).
In a public notice issued today (13 October), the telecom regulator instructed users to visit the customer care centers of their respective mobile operators to complete the de-registration or ownership transfer process within the given timeframe.
The directive is part of BTRC's ongoing efforts to curb SIM card misuse, strengthen digital security, and ensure accurate subscriber identification.
According to the notice, any subscriber failing to comply with the deadline will have their additional SIM cards automatically deactivated through a random selection process.
The move follows the commission's earlier initiative, introduced in 2016, which capped the number of SIMs per NID to prevent fraudulent activities, including illegal VoIP operations, financial scams, and digital crimes.
Subscribers can check how many SIM cards are registered under their NID by dialling *16001# and entering the last four digits of their national ID number.
