Cucsu polls: Chhatra Dal GS candidate Shafayet campaigns with letters on World Post Day

Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Cucsu) general secretary (GS) candidate Md Shafayet Hossain, nominated by the Chhatra Dal, drew attention with a different kind of campaign on World Post Day (9 October).
Instead of using posters or social media, Shafayet distributed his election message among students in printed leaflets enclosed in envelopes, resembling personal letters.

The campaign has generated curiosity and interest on campus. Each envelope contains his photograph, a short statement, and election promises.
In the letter, Shafayet wrote, "Dear conscious students, greetings and Salam. It is our shared responsibility to make university life safer, more dignified, and full of possibilities. Not hollow promises, but resolving the existing crises — that is my commitment. As a candidate for the post of general secretary (GS) in the upcoming Cucsu election, I seek your support and your vote to build a safe, equal, harmonious, and student-friendly campus. Your vote, your voice, our courage."
Speaking about his campaign, Shafayet Hossain said, "World Post Day is a reminder of the warmth and human connection that letters once carried. Although we have advanced technologically, letters still hold emotion. I wanted my campaign message to reach students with that same sincerity."
This form of campaigning stands out from the usual practices in campus politics, where posters, banners, and social media are commonly used. The initiative is seen as both a creative approach and a tribute to the traditional postal system.
After 35 years, the University of Chittagong will hold its central and hall union elections on 15 October, with 908 candidates contesting.
