Chittagong University student's body found hanging
Preliminary information suggests suicide due to a love-related issue
Police have recovered the body of a Chittagong University (CU) student from a house in the Khulshi area of Chattogram city yesterday (4 December).
The deceased was identified as Omar Faruk Suman, a student of the Arabic Department from the 2021–22 session.
Suman's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan hook at around 8.30pm, confirmed Khulshi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Alam.
"Preliminary information suggests suicide due to a love-related issue. Detailed investigation will reveal more. The body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for an autopsy," he added.
Before his death, Suman left a note stating, "I am Suman, Omar Faruk Suman. I have no hopes or expectations. I have no complaints against anyone. May everyone stay well."
CU Proctor Professor Dr Hosain Shahid Sarwardi said, "We have learned about the incident. It is initially suspected to be suicide. Many reasons are being suggested. The body has been taken for post mortem. We will know everything after the investigation."
According to locals and family, Suman lived with his elder brother at his uncle's house in Khulshi. Two days earlier, the rest of the family went to Turkey.
Last morning, his brother left for work. In the afternoon, Suman called him. But later in the day Suman stopped answering phone calls. Their mother also could not reach him. The brother asked the caretaker to check the flat, and finding no response, rushed home and found Suman hanging.
Police later recovered the body.
