A student of Dhaka International University (DIU) died after falling from the second floor of a seven-storey building in the capital's Vatara area early today (9 October).
The deceased, Fuad Naim, 23, was a third-year student at the university. He fell from the building near Saidnagar Boro Mosque around 6am, according to his roommate.
Speaking at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), his roommate Sadman Sakib said they were sharing a flat on the building's second floor.
He said he woke up after hearing local residents shouting in the morning and went downstairs, where he found Fuad lying on the ground in a bloodied condition.
Fuad was initially taken to Farazi Hospital and then to Kurmitola General Hospital before being brought to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead around 8:15am.
Sadman said they could not determine how Fuad had fallen from the building.
Fuad's home was in Tetulia village in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district. His father's name was Md Milon.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, said Fuad's roommates and classmates brought him to the hospital in a bloodied condition. Doctors declared him dead after examination.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said, adding that Vatara police are investigating the incident.
