Rail link with Sylhet restored 3 hours after Udayan Express derailment; probe launched
Locals, passengers from other coaches and members of the fire service joined rescue efforts after the accident to help the injured and evacuate those trapped inside the affected compartments.

Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country was restored this morning (7 October) after around 3 hours following the derailment of four coaches of the Udayan Express in Sylhet's Moglabazar area earlier in the day that left several injured.
Although train movement resumed through an alternative line, the derailed coaches had yet to be recovered, as the rescue train had not reached the site as of the time of writing.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Sarwar Alam said a three-member investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of the accident, adding that efforts are underway to recover the derailed coaches by the end of the day.
The derailment occurred at around 7:30am as the train was travelling from Chattogram to Sylhet, said Sylhet Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Quddus.
He added, "Four coaches, including the locomotive, of the Udayan Express derailed near Moglabazar while coming from Chattogram to Sylhet. Several passengers were injured, but their identities have not been confirmed yet."
