Industries and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir today (11 April) said Sylhet will be developed into a modern and vibrant city with the collective effort of all residents.
"Development work is progressing in line with planned initiatives to transform Sylhet into a "vibrant city" featuring a lively environment, cultural diversity, and strong economic activities. We, all together, will develop Sylhet as a modern tourist city," he said.
Delivering the chief guest's speech, the minister said this at a meeting held at the City Corporation Bhaban here.
He urged all city residents of Sylhet to cooperate in the development work to make the city both aesthetic and sustainable.
Emphasising the need to address waterlogging, he warned that low-lying areas could become uninhabitable in future if effective measures are not taken immediately.
Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury chaired the meeting. He called upon all to cooperate to turn Sylhet into a green and clean city with all modern amenities.
City Corporation Secretary Md Ashik Noor moderated the meeting while Chief Executive Officer of the city corporation Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar delivered the welcome speech, and Industry Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman also addressed the event as a special guest.
Different ongoing development projects, including waterlogging mitigation, Lal Dighi Par Super Market design, and the proposed interior design of Nagar Bhaban, were showcased at the meeting.
