Health assistants call off strike for nationwide typhoid vaccination
The typhoid vaccination programme is set to start across the country from 12 October

Health assistants have suspended their nationwide strike, which began on 1 October to press for six-point demands including revision of recruitment rules.
The decision was taken in view of the typhoid vaccination programme set to start across the country from 12 October.
The announcement followed a meeting with the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Mohakhali this morning (6 October).
Representatives of the Bangladesh Health Assistant Association (BHAA) and DGHS officials attended the meeting.
Md Fazlul Haque Chowdhury, member secretary of BHAA's Central Demands Realisation Council, told reporters that the strike has been partially suspended until 30 October due to the typhoid vaccination event, while all other activities will remain halted during this period.
"Typhoid vaccination will be carried out only once this year. Exams are upcoming, schools are closed, and there is no secretary at the Ministry of Public Administration. After discussions with the DG and our district and upazila leaders, we decided that only EPI and typhoid vaccination activities will continue during this time," he said.
He added that if no visible progress is made on their demands, the full strike programme will resume from 30 October.
The Bangladesh Health Assistant Association had initially announced the strike on 28 September.
