Lead investigator Md Alamgir presented the figures during his testimony at the tribunal today
During the July Uprising last year, police fired a total of 305,311 rounds of bullets across Bangladesh, with 95,313 rounds discharged in Dhaka city, a witness informed the International Crimes Tribunal-1 today (29 September).
Md Alamgir, the lead investigator, appearing as the 54th and final witness in the case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and three others accused of crimes against humanity, presented the figures based on a 215-page report from Police Headquarters.
Alamgir presented 17 video recordings to the court, depicting graphic scenes of violence during the July-August protests. The first video, from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, was followed by several others, including footage of Hasina's 14 July press conference, where she branded demonstrators as "descendants of razakars."
Prosecutors Mizanul Islam, Gazi Monwar Hussain Tamim, Tanvir Hasan Joha, and Abdus Sattar Palawan attended the hearing, while state-appointed lawyer Amir Hossain represented the accused.
Prosecutor Mizanul Islam noted that the fallen government had discharged over 305,000 bullets nationwide to suppress the movement.
