ACC grills casino kingpin Samrat over unrevealed wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has interrogated Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, a casino kingpin and former Dhaka city Jubo League leader, over his undisclosed wealth.

A team led by ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Alam interrogated him for five hours on Tuesday at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka.

The ACC filed a case against Samrat over allegation of amassing illegal wealth worth around Tk2.94 crore on November 12 last year. Jahangir Alam is the investigating officer of the case.

On November 24, 2019, Samrat was taken to BSMMU from Kashimpur Central Jail when he felt "chest pain". Since then, he has been undergoing treatment at BSMMU.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat and his associate Enamul Haque Arman from Kunja Sreepur village of Alkora union under Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district on October 6 last year.

Charge sheet against Samrat, Arman taken into cognizance

The RAB filed two cases against Samrat at Ramna Police Station on October 7 afternoon under firearms and narcotics acts.

Earlier, on December 9, RAB-1 Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim, also an investigation officer in the case, filed the charge-sheet.

On December 15 last year, a Dhaka court took the charge-sheet into cognisance.
