Covered van hits motorcycle from behind, kills woman, injures husband in Cox’s Bazar

A woman was killed and her husband was injured after their motorcycle was hit by a covered van in the Hajibazar area of Pekua Upazila in Cox's Bazar last night (12 September).
The accident occurred on the ABC road at Hajibazar station of Toitong union, confirmed Pekua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sirajul Mostafa.
The deceased was identified as Humayra Begum, 25, wife of Mohammad Yusuf, who was injured in the accident.
Humayra died on the spot after falling under the van. Locals rescued Yusuf and took him to Pekua Upazila Health Complex.
Locals caught the driver, Monir Hossain, 48, while he tried to flee and handed him over to the police, said OC Sirajul.
According to locals, Yusuf was travelling with his wife on a motorcycle from Banshkhali to his in-laws' house in Chairbhanga area of Pekua Sadar Union. On the way, upon reaching Hajibazar station in Pekua, he first pulled over to the roadside to let a Chattogram-bound covered van pass, while another speeding covered van hit them from behind.
Police recovered the body and seized the two vehicles involved in the accident.
Following an application, the body was handed over to the family without autopsy this morning (13 September) after filing a case, the OC added.
