We hear of many master plans: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has warned that many conspiracies against the country are being talked about, and rumours of many master plans are abound.
He made the comments at a press conference held at BNP's central office in Nayapaltan today (20 August).
Rizvi said "imperialist and hegemonic forces" are trying to tear apart the map of this country. He recalled that from the darkness of Baksal, Ziaur Rahman had re-established an enlightened multi-party democracy and ensured press freedom.
"Through national and international conspiracies, he was brutally killed on 30 May 1981 at the Chattogram Circuit House. In such a short time, he had given people security, comfort, and the assurance of survival. The conspirators could not tolerate this – that is why he was killed."
He added, "Once again the country was pushed into a dark alley of conspiracies. For 16 years, the fallen fascism of 1975 returned in a new form to power. They ruled the country through misrule, secret killings, attempts to destroy opposition politics, trampling of the press, and suppression of dissent."
Rizvi claimed that through the continuation of student and people's movements, BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman organised the movement. "But democracy has not yet been restored. A more difficult path may have to be crossed. Our work is not yet finished. Democracy has not yet been regained.
"To restore it, we may have to go through more perilous roads. That is why leaders and workers at all levels of our party, and nationalist forces, are prepared. A free and fair election is still not guaranteed. We hear of many conspiracies. We hear of many kinds of master plans."
