BNP apologises for traffic congestion during 'Victory Rally'
BNP said that it was "sincerely regretful" for the unwanted suffering caused to Dhaka residents by the traffic gridlock

BNP has expressed its sincere regret for the traffic congestion that caused inconvenience to commuters during its 'Victory Rally' in Dhaka yesterday (6 August).
The rally, held to mark the first anniversary of the July uprising that led to the fall of the autocratic Awami League government, saw a large gathering of people as it proceeded from the party's central office in Nayapaltan to Shahbagh.
In a press statement signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party said that it was "sincerely regretful" for the unwanted suffering caused to Dhaka residents by the traffic gridlock.
According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the BNP rally was one of several factors contributing to severe traffic disruption across the city.
DMP Traffic Division confirmed that severe congestion occurred in the Shantinagar, Paltan, and Shahbagh areas.
Speaking to The Business Standard, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Sarwar said, "BNP activists began gathering in the Kakrail area from various parts of the capital. There is severe congestion in Shantinagar, Paltan, and Shahbagh areas due to the rally."
He added, "Earlier in the morning, one group held a demonstration outside the Indian High Commission in Gulshan, while another organised a protest in Shahbagh. As a result of all these programmes, traffic movement has slowed in several parts of the city."
