FBJA condemns killing, assault of journalists in Gazipur
The association called for swift, impartial investigations into both incidents and urgent measures to ensure the safety of field-level journalists across Bangladesh.

The France-Bangladesh Journalists' Association (FBJA) has strongly condemned two violent attacks on journalists in Gazipur on consecutive days, one of which left a reporter dead and the other critically injured.
In a statement issued yesterday (8 August), FBJA Coordinator Mohammad Mahbub Hossain and Spokesperson Mohammad Arif Ullah said that even if the journalists had committed any wrongdoing, the law should have been allowed to take its course.
"Such barbaric and unlawful attacks can never be acceptable," the statement read.
The association called for swift, impartial investigations into both incidents and urgent measures to ensure the safety of field-level journalists across Bangladesh.
It also stressed that in post-uprising Bangladesh, ensuring journalist safety and taking immediate legal action in all cases of violence against the press is an urgent necessity.
On 6 August, in Gazipur, Anwar Hossain, 35, a staff reporter for The Daily Bangladesher Alo, was severely beaten by unidentified assailants, leaving him in critical condition.
The next day, Md Asaduzzaman Tuhin, 38, a staff reporter for The Daily Pratidiner Kagoj, was hacked to death by armed attackers in the same district.
