Dismembered body of woman recovered in Cumilla; tenant held
Police and local sources said Laily allegedly admitted during preliminary questioning to involvement in the killing.
Police recovered nine packets containing the dismembered body parts of a 55-year-old landlady from behind her house in Debidwar municipality of Cumilla yesterday (8 August) evening.
The deceased was identified as Farida Begum, wife of Mofizul Islam Bhuiyan of Mohna Residential Area in Chhota Alampur of the municipality.
Farida had been missing since yesterday morning, according to her family.
After failing to find her despite searches in various places, family members made announcements over a loudspeaker in the area.

Later in the afternoon, Farida's nephew Mamun spotted several sacks and packets behind the house. Suspecting something unusual, he went closer and found parts of a dismembered body. Later, police were informed of the house.
On information, police from Debidwar Police Station went to the spot and recovered the body parts wrapped in polythene.
They also detained Laily Begum, 35, a tenant of the house.
Officer-in-Charge of the police station Md Moniruzzaman said nine packets containing dismembered parts of Farida's body were recovered, but her head and legs were still missing.
He said Laily was initially questioned and named four other people.
Police and local sources said Laily allegedly admitted during preliminary questioning to involvement in the killing.
However, police were verifying her statement and investigating whether others were involved.
The motive for the killing has not yet been established, the OC said, adding that they sent the recovered body parts to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Local sources said Laily had rented a room in the house about eight days ago after moving from Chapanagar village in the Debidwar municipal area. Her husband, Abul Kalam, works aboard a ship in Chattogram.
Sources also said Laily had been accused in a 2021 murder case involving the killing of a child along with several others and was later released on bail.
However, police have not established any link between that case and the latest killing.
