Martyrs of July mass uprising remembered at IUBAT

The International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) held a commemorative event on Saturday, 19 July 2025, to honour the martyrs and injured freedom fighters of the historic July Mass Uprising.
The programme took place at 12:40 PM in the university's Conference Hall. Presided over by Professor Dr Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, the session featured reflections from university leadership and student organisers. Professor Selina Nargis, Treasurer, and Professor Dr Md Momtazur Rahman, Registrar, also spoke on the occasion.
Student leaders and participants of the July Movement shared their recollections and paid tribute to the spirit of resistance that defined the uprising. Notable speakers included Omar Faruk, Chief Organiser of the Combined Private Universities Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; Junnurain Islam Sohan, Convener of the IUBAT Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; and Md Akamin, Member Secretary of the IUBAT Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
They were joined by Israt Jahan Niha, Central Executive Member of the Bangladesh Democratic Students Union; Abdullah Al Noman, Senior Joint Member Secretary; and NH Ashiq, Ashikujjaman Shikdar, Tanvir Ahmed Anik (Joint Convener), Dipit Das, and Muntasir Al Mahmud.
Speakers highlighted the significance of the July uprising as a watershed moment in Bangladesh's fight for justice and democracy. They called on future generations to continue defending people's rights and democratic ideals.
"The July Mass Uprising is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by young people for the greater good of the nation. It remains an inspiration for all who stand against injustice," said one speaker.
The event concluded with a special prayer in remembrance of the fallen heroes. Faculty members, administrative officials, students, and alums were in attendance.
