Trump repeats threat to strike Iran's power plants, bridges if Hormuz remains blocked
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!" Trump said in a Truth Social post.
US President Donald Trump said in an expletive-laden social media post on Sunday (5 April) that the United States will target Iran's power plants and bridges on Tuesday if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened, reports Reuters.
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!" Trump said in a Truth Social post, referencing the key shipping lane that Tehran has effectively closed since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran more than a month ago.
"Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!," Trump said, ending his Easter morning post with: "Praise be to Allah."
The president separately said he would hold a news conference on Monday in the Oval Office, after the US military rescued two US pilots whose aircraft were downed in Iran.
Yesterday, in posts on Truth Social, he wrote, "Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out. 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP."
Trump had first issued a threat on 21 March to "obliterate" Iran's power infrastructure, starting with its largest facilities, if the waterway was not fully reopened within 48 hours.
However, he later said "very good and productive conversations" were taking place with Iranian authorities and temporarily delayed the planned strikes.
The deadline was subsequently extended multiple times, most recently set to expire at 8pm Monday (0000 GMT Tuesday).
The escalating rhetoric comes amid heightened tensions after a US F-15 fighter jet was shot down over southern Iran, further intensifying fears of a broader military confrontation in the region.
