A Dhaka court has ordered authorities concerned to freeze Tk18 crore across 33 bank accounts of journalist Munni Saha and her husband Kabir Hossain, amid an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into allegations of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.

Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court issued the order today (16 July) following a petition by ACC Deputy Director Yasir Arafat, according to court sources.

According to the ACC petition, the combined balance in the frozen accounts stands at Tk18.16 crore. The accounts include several jointly held with ATN News cameraman Tapon Kumar Saha and his mother Apel Rani Saha.

The ACC informed the court that Munni Saha and her husband, who owns MS Promotional, are under investigation for allegedly earning money through illegal means and acquiring wealth not consistent with their known sources of income.

The commission revealed that numerous bank accounts have been found in the names of the accused, containing a large number of suspicious transactions.

In light of the suspicious transactions found and the substantial balances in these accounts, it has become essential to freeze the funds to prevent any attempts to siphon them abroad, the ACC stated in its appeal.
