Under the order, 23.29 acres of land, including a five-katha plot in Uttara, have been seized as part of an ongoing investigation by the ACC.
A Dhaka court today (6 January) ordered the seizure of more than 23 acres of land belonging to Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, former lawmaker for Dinajpur-2 and former state minister for shipping, as part of an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also ordered the freezing of several of his bank accounts.
The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following a petition filed by the ACC, Bench Assistant Md Reaz Hossain confirmed.
Under the order, 23.29 acres of land, including a five-katha plot in Uttara, have been seized.
The court also directed authorities to freeze six bank accounts, including fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) and savings certificates, along with a vehicle. The total value of these movable assets has been stated as Tk38,759,263.
According to the ACC petition, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury carried out suspicious financial transactions amounting to Tk57,382,687 while serving as a public servant, which were inconsistent with his known sources of income.
The petition also mentioned transactions worth Tk136,823,510 through 11 bank accounts and five card accounts.
Based on these allegations, a case has been filed against him under the Money Laundering Act and is currently under investigation.
During the inquiry, the ACC found information indicating the acquisition of both movable and immovable assets in his name.
The ACC told the court that there was a risk the accused could attempt to leave the country or transfer ownership of assets during the investigation.
To ensure a proper and fair inquiry, it sought the seizure and freezing of the assets, which the court approved.
