The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted mobile court drives in the capital's Mitford and Babubazar areas yesterday (13 July) against traffic law violations, illegal parking, and obstruction of public roads by leaving goods or operating unauthorised structures.

The drive, led by Special Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman, was carried out under the initiative of the DMP's Lalbagh Division in coordination with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), as well as police personnel from Kotwali and Bangshal Police Stations.

During the operation, two individuals were sentenced to jail, two others were fined, and four were arrested for creating public inconvenience by occupying roads or setting up unauthorised structures.

According to the DMP's Lalbagh Traffic Division, one pushcart syndicate leader was sentenced to seven days of imprisonment under Section 92 of the Road Transport Act for setting up an illegal cart stand on Mitford Road, obstructing traffic.

In another incident, a driver of Bahadur Shah Paribahan was sentenced to one month of imprisonment under Section 66 of the Road Transport Act for driving without a licence in the Babubazar Bridge area.

The Lalbagh Traffic Division also reported that two truck drivers were each fined Tk6,000 for illegally parking their vehicles and obstructing traffic. The court also ordered seven days of imprisonment for failure to pay the fine, but both drivers paid the amount and were released.

Additionally, several cases were filed through the use of POS (point of sale) machines during the drive.

Four individuals were also arrested for setting up illegal van and rickshaw garages on the road, causing further obstruction to public movement.
