Vehicles fined for reckless parking in front of IDCs, causing traffic congestion on Dhaka-Ctg highway in Sitakunda

A mobile court launched a drive today (26 July) along the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sitakunda, cracking down on reckless vehicle parking and wrong-way driving — two major causes of ongoing traffic congestion in the area.
The drive was led by Abdullah Al Mamun, assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate, in collaboration with Baro Awlia Highway Police.
Abdullah Al Mamun told The Business Standard that the court focused on hotspot areas in front of the KDS Logistic Depot in Kumira and the BM Container Depot in Shitalpur, where large trucks and heavy vehicles were found parked disorderly along the highway, obstructing traffic. Several drivers were also caught driving against the flow of traffic, he added.
"Fines were issued under relevant sections of the Road Transport Act 2028. Among those penalised, Md Sharif, Rabbi Hawlader, and Md Zahir were each fined Tk1,500. Md Raihan was fined Tk6,000, and Md Nurul Islam received a fine of Tk2,000."
The mobile court also issued firm warnings to the management of the depots for their failure to regulate vehicle movement around their facilities. Authorities instructed them to take immediate steps to improve traffic discipline and avoid future legal consequences.
Officials said that similar drives will continue to ensure better traffic management and safety on the highway.
