Why is govt allowing this?: Tarique on mob violence
Tarique claimed he had warned of "invisible enemies" nine months ago. "You must have noticed that they are gradually becoming visible. The conspiracy is not over yet."
Accusing the authorities of failing to arrest those allegedly forming violent mobs, BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman has called for crackdown on mob violence.
"Why is the government allowing these incidents to happen?" he asked, referring to the brutal murder of trader Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of Mitford Hospital.
He made the remarks while virtually speaking at a view-exchange meeting with family members of July uprising martyrs and injured at a hotel in Gulshan-2, Dhaka today (12 July).
"We were very surprised to see clearly on the screen who were killing [the trader], but they have not yet been arrested. Should we assume that those trying to create mob violence and unrest are being secretly supported or pampered by the government or some officials in the administration?" he said.
Tarique claimed he had warned of "invisible enemies" nine months ago.
"You must have noticed that they are gradually becoming visible. The conspiracy is not over yet," he added.
He said both BNP and its affiliated organisations have always demanded justice, no matter who commits the crime.
"A wrongdoer is a wrongdoer. Justice must be served according to the law. No wrongdoer should have the identity of any political party," he said.
"Many incidents are happening in different places, and we are watching closely those who are trying to disrupt a peaceful environment."
On 9 July, scrap metal trader Sohag was brutally killed in public near Mitford Hospital, with CCTV footage showing assailants continuing to attack the victim's lifeless body in a perverse display of brutality.
On 11 July, Jubo Dal expelled two of its leaders for their alleged involvement in the murder.
