BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Mohammad Sohag, a trader who was hacked and beaten to death in broad daylight at the main gate of Mitford Hospital in Dhaka on 9 July.

In a statement issued yesterday (11 July), Fakhrul expressed deep concern and outrage over the incident, describing it as a "barbaric act committed by miscreants".

"This horrific incident is not just the loss of a life, it is a reflection of the alarming deterioration of public safety, citizen rights, and law and order," said the BNP leader.

"There is no place for violence and brutality in our party's principles, ideology, or politics. No matter who the criminal is, they must never be above the law."

Fakhrul called on the interim government to immediately launch an impartial and credible investigation and ensure that the real perpetrators are brought to justice. "Set an example by handing out exemplary punishment," he urged.

Two Jubo Dal leaders expelled over trader's murder at Mitford

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, has expelled two of its leaders for their alleged involvement in the killing.

Rajjab Ali Pintu, former assistant secretary for climate affairs of the Jubo Dal Central Executive Committee, and Sabah Karim Lucky, joint convener of the Dhaka South Jubo Dal, have been permanently expelled from the organisation, according to a statement issued yesterday.

Both were named in a case filed by the victim's family.
