35% tariff: Bangladesh, US 'reach general consensus on some issues' on second day of talks; final round today
A notable development on the second day was a private meeting between Bangladesh's Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer

The second day of the three-day Bangladesh-United States tariff negotiation has concluded, with both sides engaging in detailed discussions on the present and future course of bilateral trade.
While a number of issues saw a general consensus, some key matters remain unresolved. The third and final day of discussions is scheduled to begin today (10 July) at 9am Washington time, according to a press release of the CA's Press Wing issued today.
A notable development on the second day was a private meeting between Bangladesh's Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer. Greer, a high-ranking official with ministerial status in the Trump administration, discussed tariff-related issues and broader matters of bilateral trade and mutual interest in a cordial atmosphere.
Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin highlighted Bangladesh's overall trade situation and priorities during the talks. He reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to increasing both exports to and imports from the United States, a process that is already underway.
Bangladesh also expressed its expectation for fair treatment in tariff matters and a level playing field in order to remain competitive. In response, Ambassador Greer assured continued support and cooperation from the US side, reads the press release.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin led the talks for Bangladesh, with National Security Adviser Khililur Rahman joining virtually from Dhaka. Present in person were Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Additional Secretary Dr. Nazneen Kauser Chowdhury. Senior government officials and experts also participated virtually.
