Barishal Education Board recorded the lowest pass rate among the eight general education boards in this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, with a sharp decline of over 32 percentage points from last year.

According to results released today (10 July) by Board Chairman Prof MA Yunus Siddique, the board's pass rate dropped to 56.38%, down from 89.13% in 2024.

The number of GPA-5 achievers also fell by nearly half, from 6,145 last year to 3,114 this year.

District-wise, Pirojpur performed best within the division with a pass rate of 65.38%, followed by Barishal (57.20%), Patuakhali (55.72%), Bhola (54.70%), and Jhalakathi (51.77%). Barguna ranked the lowest at 50.84%.

Science students had the highest pass and GPA-5 rates, with 2,920 scoring the top grade in the board, followed by 1,592 from the humanities and only 35 from the business studies stream.

Only 17 schools out of 1,502 achieved a 100% pass rate — down from 222 schools last year — while 16 schools saw all students fail. Notably, 737 schools reported pass rates below 50%.The 

Barishal board had 84,702 registered candidates, of whom 82,931 sat for the exams. A total of 46,758 students passed, while 28 students were expelled for misconduct, which places it at the bottom of the national rankings.
