Rainfall to subside nationwide by Saturday: Met office

Persistent rainfall across the country over the past few days is expected to subside in several areas starting tomorrow.
In its weather bulletin today, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) also mentioned that rainfall is likely to decrease across the country by Saturday.
On Thursday afternoon, BMD Meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir told The Business Standard that rainfall has already reduced in various parts of the country today and is expected to lessen further tomorrow.
Between 6am and 12pm today, 50 millimeters of rain was recorded in Sitakunda and 37 millimeters in Feni.
The maritime ports have also been advised to lower their warning signals, he mentioned.
According to the department's forecast, a low-pressure system is currently situated over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas.
The axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, across the low-pressure area, through central Bangladesh to Assam.
An extension of this trough also reaches the northern Bay of Bengal.
Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over the northern Bay.
The 24-hour forecast from 9am states that light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur in most places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram divisions, and in many places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.
Additionally, some areas in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram divisions may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall.
