AIUB becomes first Asian university featured in IAU-SOS spotlight

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has become the first Asian university to be featured in the prestigious Spotlight segment jointly initiated by the International Association of Universities (IAU) and Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK).
The recognition comes as part of the Responsible Futures International (RFI) 2024–25 programme, which highlights institutions embedding sustainability, climate justice, and ethical practices into higher education. AIUB's inclusion marks a significant milestone for both the university and the country.
A central focus of the feature was the work of AIUB Social Welfare Club – Shomoy (ASC), under the guidance of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). Since its inception in 2009, the club has led numerous initiatives supporting underprivileged communities across Bangladesh.
Highlighted initiatives included "Oder Eid, Amader Khushi," an annual campaign providing food, clothing and joy to underprivileged children during Eid; the Winter Clothing Drive; emergency relief efforts during floods; and awareness programmes focused on hygiene, mental health, and environmental care.
These efforts reflect AIUB's commitment to fostering socially conscious students who engage meaningfully with their communities.
The university's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) facilitated AIUB's participation in the RFI programme. This achievement underscores AIUB's global outlook and its role as a responsible higher education institution rooted in values of sustainability and social equity.
