AMZ hospital launches new full-fledged stroke centre
AMZ Hospital has inaugurated the AMZ Acute Stroke Unit, a full-fledged stroke centre poised to deliver life-saving, round-the-clock care to stroke patients nationwide. The launch ceremony, held at the hospital's premises in Dhaka, brought together leading neurologists, neurosurgeons, internal medicine experts, senior hospital officials, and representatives from partner organisation Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The stroke centre has been established following international treatment protocols and is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and a multidisciplinary clinical team trained to respond within the crucial "Golden Hour"—the narrow window of time where timely intervention can prevent long-term disability or even death.
Dr Lima Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of AMZ Hospital, welcomed attendees and emphasised the centre's commitment to swift diagnosis and intervention. She stated that the facility is designed to operate 24/7, with advanced neuroimaging capabilities and thrombolysis therapy administered by a specialised stroke management team. "Our foremost objective is to ensure timely, evidence-based treatment. In stroke care, every second matters," she remarked.

Associate Professor Dr Md Motashimul Hasan Shiplu, neurosurgeon, reiterated the urgency of immediate care, describing stroke as a dangerous vascular event that, without prompt and appropriate treatment, can lead to irreversible damage. "Time is Brain," he declared, stressing the value of early intervention. He also lauded the hospital's integration of neuroimaging, surgery, medication, and rehabilitation under one roof as a bold, team-oriented approach to holistic stroke care.
Neurologist Dr Md Bazlur Rashid Sumon pointed to the increasing incidence of stroke in Bangladesh, underscoring the urgent need for a national standard in emergency stroke response. "This centre is built around a clear and efficient protocol to deliver appropriate care within minutes of a patient's arrival. With our focus on the 'Golden Hour,' we aim to significantly reduce preventable stroke-related complications," he said.
The stroke centre's strategic infrastructure includes access to 24/7 emergency response teams, ICU and HDU facilities, mechanical thrombectomy capabilities, and a fully functional cath lab. The centre is also supported by a panel of experienced neurology, neurosurgery, and internal medicine professionals, working together to deliver not only acute care but also long-term rehabilitation and recovery support.
